PROJECT CONTEXT
HOW DO OUR CUSTOMERS SEARCH FOR OUR MOBILE APPS?
Identify how customers discover and learn more about mobile apps.
ESTABLISH BASELINE USABILITY METRICS
Document mobile app usability experiences for both non-expert and expert GIS users.
DESIGN AND RESEARCH ACTIVITIES
ONLINE RECRUITMENT
Recruited 50+ participants from an online research platform. Developed screening survey to identify and enroll both non-expert and expert Geographic Information Systems users.
STUDY DESIGN
Developed a set of tailored usability tasks that participants could self-lead through, followed by post-task SEQs.
Usability tasks were informed by:
task content generated by product engineers that captured their priority areas for testing
completed and ongoing research on the app to identify core features, workflows, and success indicators for testing
DATA ANALYSIS
Held over 50 usability testing sessions with global participants. Identified major themes among successful and failed tasks, perceptions of app features, and experiences with online search experiences. Prioritized findings into high, medium, low, and cosmetic categories to support timeline for next app update and release.
PRESENTATION
Documented major findings, recommendations, and research process in a virtual, interactive study report. Communicated study findings through bulleted lists, tables, video clips, annotated images, and quotes. Generated recommendations for high priority items that could be addressed prior to next release.
Walked-through study report with three product engineers to communicate findings and recommendations.
